Destination ~ engineering aims to contribute to solving the following problems:
The reason to solve these problems are: 'Filling the demand for engineers in the UK will generate an additional £27 billion per year for the UK economy from 2022, the equivalent of building 1,800 schools or 110 hospitals - Engineering UK 2015, The State of Engineering. To meet the projected demand, the number of engineering apprentices and graduates will need to double. Engineering companies will need 182,000 people per year with engineering skills running up to 2022, however there is a current shortfall of 55,000 skilled engineering professionals per year.' In my personal experience, I noticed the lack of work experience/insights opportunities in engineering. I need to get connected with current experts whose shoes I hope to be in one day. The big question is: How can we possibly choose to dedicate ourselves to a career with no insight?! How can I and many aspiring engineers get a real insight without being there physically to get 'hands-on', to decide engineering is really for me and choose to dedicate a couple of years to study it? The official GOV website has this to say about engineering and innovation: Investment in innovation will be critical to achieving this, and to building a greener, healthier and more prosperous future for the UK. Innovation is central to the largest challenges the world faces, from climate change and the ageing society to global pandemics. The UK must be in the vanguard of the response to these challenges. Now we have left the EU, we can move quickly to respond to these challenges, and other global opportunities, to cement the UK’s position as a world-leader in science, research and innovation. Destination ~ engineering aims to contribute to the GOV's 'key actions which include 4 pillars to their strategy that you can read more about here: UK Innovation Strategy: leading the future by creating it (accessible webpage) - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) “Some people see innovation as change, but we have never really seen it like that. It’s making things better." - Tim Cook, Apple CEO What will d ~ e provide? Articles
